I. Job Summary
Supervise and conduct operation and maintenance activities at all assigned closed landfills.
*Position located in Sumpter Township, MI
II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other minor duties may be assigned, as required.
- Supervise site staff, contractors and consultants conducting maintenance work at a site in order to ensure the quality and timeliness of their work.
- Possess a solid working knowledge of all site-specific system operation and maintenance requirements including landfill gas management systems and controls, leachate management systems and controls, treatment systems and controls, groundwater and surface water systems as well as other ancillary equipment and other site maintenance requirements.
- Perform maintenance and monitoring work as necessary on site systems, including monitoring of the GCCS for NSPS parameters and for the mitigation of offsite migration of landfill gas.
- Maintain site-specific Operation and Maintenance Plans and keep plans updated.
- Manage site operation and maintenance activities within assigned site budgets. Notify the appropriate site project manager or area director when activities will exceed annual budgeted amount.
- Supervise and monitor closed landfill operations to ensure that site operations are in compliance with all corporate safety initiatives.
- Comply with all company policies and procedures.
- Utilize the competitive bidding process in the selection of maintenance contractors and consultants. Ensure that all third party contractors and consultants are compliant with all corporate insurance and safety requirements.
- Ensure that all data submittals to management and regulatory agencies are collected, analyzed and submitted on time. Utilize the Corporate Cycle Compliance System to achieve this requirement.
- Supervise on-site staff to include training, mentoring and evaluating performance. Provide input to area director on compensation, termination and promotion decisions.
- Maintain positive relationships with regulators, local governments and general public potentially involved with or affected by the site.
III. Supervisory Responsibilities
The highest level of supervisory skills required in this job is the management of non-supervisory employees. This includes: - Direct supervision of 0 full-time employees.
- Direct supervision of 2-5 third party contractors and consultants.
IV. Qualifications
The requirements listed below are representative of the qualifications necessary to perform the job.
A. Education and Experience
Required:
- High school diploma or G.E.D., and
Four to six years of previous experience in hands-on instrumentation, mechanical, or landfill site systems operation and maintenance, to include landfill gas systems, leachate systems, treatment systems, groundwater systems, pumps, controls and general electrical systems.
Experience managing external contractors.
- Profiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook.
Preferred:
- Associate's Degree, or equivalent experience
B. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations or Other Requirements
- OSHA 1910.120 Hazwoper training and First aid,
C. Other Knowledge, Skills or Abilities Required
- Equipment operating, health, safety and environmental regulations knowledge, and supervisory experience would be required.
